ADDITIONAL NEEDS SESSIONS
As well as our gymnastics classes we run a programme of classes for children and young people with special needs and disabilities.
REBOUND THERAPY
Rebound Therapy gives young adults a chance to bounce on the trampoline and explore the gymnastics equipment, under the guidance of a gymnastics coach and qualified Rebound Therapist. Young adults attend with their carers or parents. Sessions take place on a Monday lunchtime during the school term time.
GYMNASTICS & MOVEMENT THERAPY
These small groups with a high coach to gymnast ratio are led by our Occupational Therapist and our qualified gymnastics/trampoline coaches. Several members of the team are also trained in Rebound Therapy. We run weekly sessions on a Wednesday evening and monthly sessions on a Saturday afternoon – all of these sessions are supported by Dorset’s Aiming High programme.
SATURDAY DISABILITIES SESSION
Saturday Disabilities Sessions – we try to run sessions once a month for children and young adults with disabilities and special needs. These sessions are usually split into three groups:
Group 1 – for those children who need to be accompanied by a parent or carer or those new to the YMCA. There is always an opportunity for parents/carers to discuss their child with our Occupational Therapist who is happy to give advice and guidance.
Group 2 – Most children attend this group independently, but some adults do stay to help and support.
Group 3 – this is a very small group for teenagers/young adults.
WEDNESDAY DISABILITIES SESSION
The age range for these classes is 5 years to 24 years, there are two classes roughly divided by age. Gymnasts are able to follow their own programme under the guidance of our team.
